Folklore says that Tumburu Gandharva told his lazy wife that she would turn into a frog and live in Tirumala Lake. After that, Tumburu Gandharva felt bad and told his wife that if Sage Agastya comes to the place and talks about how holy it is, she will change back to her old self.
Sage Agastya and his students got there after a few years. He was sitting under a tree, which was a safe place for the frog. The Sage talked about how holy the cave was. It is thought that swimming in the Tirth leads to moksha, which means freedom. After hearing what the wise man said, the frog turned back into what it used to be. Tumburu Theertham is the name of this holy lake.
