It is said in folklore that Lord Nataraja bestows darshan upon those who worship him during the months of Aani and Margazhi.

Every 365 days, the Earth completes one revolution around the sun as part of its yearly orbit. The other four seasons are as follows: Marghazhi-Thai, which is the beginning of the winter season; Maasi-Panguni, which is the end of the winter season; Chittirai-Vaikasi, which is the beginning of the summer season; Aani-Aadi, which is the height of the summer season; Avani-Purattasi, which is the beginning of the autumn season; and Aippsi-Karthikai, One day in immortality is equivalent to one human year with its six distinct seasons. Lord Siva is said to have manifested himself to Sage Manikkavachakar under a Kurundai Tree and bestowed upadesha upon him (advice). It is said that after the abhishekam that was performed on the Lord, the sage miraculously turned into the Lord in front of everyone, becoming a brilliant flame. The text known as Thiruvachakam was written by the Sage Manikkavachakar.

It is believed that abhishekam, also known as the holy bath of the idol, is at its most fruitful and beneficial when it is carried out during the day’s dusk (Pradosham). At the Nataraja Temple on this particular day, special rituals and processions are carried out.

The day of celebration known as Ani Uthiram is observed during the Tamil month known as Aani. This special day is devoted to Lord Nataraj Shiva. The 26th of June, 2023 will be the date of Aani Uthiram. Aani Thirumanjanam is another name for the ceremony, and it is carried out on the day that occurs during the Aani Masam month and is governed by the Uthiram Nakshatra.

Abhishekam:

Lord Nataraja (Shiva) and Lady Sivakami will be taken to Raja Sabhai on June 25th following Therottam (Thousand Pillared Mandapam). Laksharchanai will then take place.

Early on June 26th, Maha Abhishegam was performed with Thiruneer, Milk, Curd, Honey, Panchamirtham, Sandal, and other items. Please take note that only six times a year shall abhishegams to Lord Nataraj be conducted.
