There is a small village called Ryali that is well-known for the temple of Lord Jagan Mohini Keshava Swamy. Ryali is located between the rivers Vashishta and Gautami, both of which are tributaries of the River Godavari. The previous year, I was blessed with the opportunity to visit this location. When the priest who was presiding over the abhishekam (pooja) invited us into the Garbha Gudi, I was completely astounded and taken aback by the situation (sanctum sanctorum). The reason for this is that the women are not permitted to enter the Garbha Gudi in the temples located in the southern regions. On the one hand, the priest was reciting the pooja, and on the other, he was narrating the history of this temple and demonstrating its various features.

Lord JaganMohini Keshava Swamy is worshipped at the Ryali temple, also known as the Keshava temple. Both the artwork and the architecture of the temple are very distinctive. The idol of the presiding deity is 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide, and it has been beautifully and gracefully carved out of a single black saligrama stone. The front side of the stone depicts Keshava Swamy, and the back side of the stone depicts JaganMohini, a lovely and attractive woman. However, the most distinctive aspect of this temple is the idol of the presiding deity, which measures 5 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The skillful carving of this idol is intended to inspire awe and reverence in the hearts and minds of those who worship it.

Lord Maha Vishnu, who is depicted in this image in the form of Keshava Swamy, is depicted as having four hands. It appears that he is holding the “Shankha” (conch) and “Chakra” (disc) in two of his hands, while the “Gadha” and “Manthara” mountains are held in the other two hands. The temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Sri Umakamandaleswaraswami can be found directly across from this one.

As a result of Lord Brahma creating a Lingam and performing abhishekam with water from his kamandalam, Lord Siva is now worshipped here as Sri Umakamandaleswaraswami. In addition to Sri Maha Vishnu with his conch and discus, the forms of Sridevi, Boodevi, Saint Narada and his thumbura, Ramba, Oorvasi, Kinnara, Kimpurusha, Govardhana Krishna, Adi Shesha (the serpent), Garuda, and Ganga devi have also been carved into the rock. There is a constant flow of water emerging from the ground at the feet of the idol. This water is used to moisten the flowers that are placed at the feet of the Lord, and the water that is collected from these flowers is then used to sprinkle devotees. In addition to the shrine dedicated to Sri Lakshmi Devi, there is a separate one that is dedicated to Sri Sathya Narayana Swamy.
