The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple is situated in the Indian city of Shirdi, which is part of the Ahmednagar District in the state of Maharashtra. The saint Shri Sai Baba, who lived in the area in the 19th century, is the city’s claim to fame. There is such a deep connection that Shirdi is often called Sainagar. Shri Sai Baba is revered as God due to his extraordinary gifts. Sakshaat Ishwar (SAI) literally translates to “the ultimate God.” Located in the middle of Shirdi hamlet, the temple covers an area of around 200 square meters. The Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust in Shirdi controls and manages the Samadhi Temple dedicated to the saint. The improvement of Shirdi village is another focus of the charity.
An estimated 25,000 pilgrims make the journey to Shirdi village every day to get to Darshan. At festival times, this increases to over a hundred thousand daily worshippers. More and more people come to pay their respects to the Divine and see for themselves that Baba’s claim that he will continue to answer prayers from beyond the grave is true. The day of the week most people devote to Sadguru devotion is Thursday. Thus, many worshippers go to the temple on this particular day.
Shirdi Sai Baba Temple History Latest Updates Information
I found the history behind this temple’s building to be fascinating. A Nagpur businessman named Gopal Rao Booty who was deeply devoted to Sai Baba financed the construction of the temple. Building wadaa was the original plan. The objective was to find a spot that could serve dual purposes as a shrine to Krishna and a bathroom.
Once upon a time, Gopal Rao and his fellow Sai devotee comrade Shaama were sound asleep. Gopal Rao had a dream in which Sai Baba told him, “Let there be wadaa with a temple so that I may fulfill the wants of everybody.” After waking up, Booty told Shaama about his dream. Shaama burst into tears because he experienced a similar dream.
They were both moved by the miraculous event. They presented Kakasaheb Dixit with some preliminary drawings. The group next made the trip to Sai Baba to get his blessing for the temple’s construction. Baba offered his approval to the endeavor. About 1915, construction finally got rolling on this. Stone construction earned it the name Dagadi Wada. Shaama oversaw the building process himself. Baba would sometimes provide advice as he strolled around the area. Complete renovations were done in 1998–1999, so the Temple building has all the amenities it needs.
