According to the legends, Sage Divakara Muni was a devout follower of Lord Vishnu and would often carry out rituals known as poojas. As a result of the devotee’s efforts, Lord Vishnu came to him in the form of a kid. Sage asked Lord when he was a youngster whether he might remain, and Lord agreed—on the condition that he would depart as soon as he was reprimanded. Sage allowed Lord to get away with misbehaving when he was a kid because she was patient.

One day, the sage was sitting in meditation when the youngster approached him and began inserting a stone known as a saligrama (a sacred item) in his mouth. When Sage was leaving the location, he became enraged and yelled at the kid and the child, saying, “If you want to see me, go to Anantha woodland.” After realizing his error, he immediately began looking for the Anantha forest.

During his quest, he overheard the voice of a mother threatening her kid, “Stop wailing or I will abandon you in the Anantha jungle.” Sage, who was already familiar with the path to the Anantha woodland, begged for a lantern from the Lady and made his way there. In the wee hours of the morning, Sage saw a massive tree fall to the ground and turn into Ananthasayana, which was around 18 kilometers long.

His feet were in Thiruppadapuram, his head was in Thiruvallom, and his body was in Thiruvananthapuram. Sage, who was unable to view the whole form, pleaded with Lord to accept the shape, which she said should not be any more than three times the length of his staff. As a response to his prayer, Lord Vishnu blessed his followers by assuming the shape of Ananta Sayana.

Construction of the Temple Tower, also known as the Gopuram, began in the year 1565 A.D. It wasn’t until the reign of Raja Marthanda Varma in the 1753 century A.D. that it was finally finished. The Chera architectural style is distinctive to Kerala and its surrounding states since it took into account the prevailing winds and climate while constructing the temple. Typical shapes for Chera-style temples include the square, rectangle, octagon, and star. The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is considered to be one of the 108 Divya Desams (holy abodes of Vishnu), which are the most important places of devotion for the god Vishnu in the Vaishnava religion.
