According to the legend, during the Kruta Yuga, Mount Meru began to expand, which altered the route that the Sun God Chariot took. Sage, who was becoming increasingly concerned, sought assistance from Sage Agastya. Meru was notified by Agastya that he was going on a pilgrimage to the south, and Agastya ordered Meru to stop growing until he returned. Sage Agastya is credited with creating Pathala Ganga and offering prayers to the Sun God. During the time when the Sage was taking a rest under the tree, the Goddess Lalitha Ambika appeared in the Loya and informed him that she was scouring this forest in search of wickedness. Sage Agastya prayed to the goddess and asked her to remain at this location so that the people’s needs may be met. Talpulamma appeared before him after he asked the goddess to do so.
