The Edakkal Caves are one of the oldest human settlements that have ever been found, and they are situated approximately 370 meters (1,200 feet) above the ocean. Pictorial artwork and engravings can be found inside the caverns, both of which provide evidence of the existence of ancient human settlements in the area.
The Edakkal caverns are two natural caves that may be found in a secluded area at Edakkal, which is situated approximately 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala, which is located in India’s Western Ghats. They are located on Ambukutty Mala, which is 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) above sea level, and they are close to an ancient trade route that connects the high mountains of Mysore to the ports on the Malabar coast. There is evidence of an ancient settlement in this area based on the presence of graphic writings that can be found within the caves. These writings are thought to date back to at least 6,000 BCE and were created by Neolithic man. Stone Age carvings are extremely uncommon, and those found in Edakkal are the only known examples from South India, in addition to those found in Shenthurini and Kollam, both of which are located in Kerala.

About Edakkal Caves Location Wayanad
There are a great number of myths about the origin of the Edakkal caves. The arrows that were shot by Lord Sri Rama’s sons, Lava and Kusha, are claimed to be responsible for the formation of these caves, according to one legend. One more of them is connected to Kutti Chathan and the Goddess Mudiampilly. The native people of this area traditionally made a trek of devotion to this location in order to pay homage to the Goddess.
The caves are split into two floors, each with its own set of slender iron stairs. The length of the lower chamber is approximately 18 feet, and the height is approximately 10 feet. From this point, there is a short path that leads to the top chamber, which is approximately 95 feet in length and 18 feet in height. These natural rock structures are known as caves, and they were created when a large crack appeared in a massive rock.
