Why Kartik Purnima Is Important:
The festival is celebrated as Lord Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasara. It is also called “Tripuri Purnima” or “Tripurari Purnima.” The Lord Vishnu is also honoured during this festival. On this day, he became Matsya, which is his first incarnation, or “avatar.”
Hindu legend says that the Gods came down to earth on this day and landed in the sacred rivers. This is why, on Kartik Purnima, people who believe in Gods take baths in holy rivers, thinking that the Gods will bless them.
When this festival falls in the Nakshatra Krittika, it is more important (lunar mansion). It is called Maha Kartik when this happens.
Schedule of the event:
Kartik Purnima lasts for five days. The main celebration starts on Prabodhani Ekadashi. This is the time when the Gods who had come to earth woke up. This is also the end of Chaturmas, which is when Lord Vishnu slept for four months. On the 11th day of Shukla Paksha, Hindus celebrate Ekadashi, and on the 15th day, they celebrate Purnima.
