Sabarimala History Time 2023 Opening Dates Procedure
The Sabarimala Temple is a religious complex that may be seen on the Sabarimala hill in the Periyar Tiger Reserve in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala in the southern Indian state of India. It is estimated that about 10 to 15 million devotees visit the site annually, making it one of the most popular places in the world for people to go on pilgrimage. The Hindu Brahmachari (Celibate) god Ayyappan, who is also known as Dharma Shasta, is believed to be the son of Shiva and Vishnu and is the focus of the worship at this temple. A convergence of Shaivism, Vaishnavism, and other Srama traditions can be seen in Sabarimala’s rituals and practices.
This Ayyappan Temple may be found perched on a hill in the middle of eighteen other hills at an elevation of 487 meters (1598 feet) above the mean sea level. It is also flanked on all sides by mountains and thick woods. Poongavanam is the name given to the lush forest that surrounds the temple and is a component of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. There is a temple perched on each of the hills that encircle Sabarimala. Even while there are still fully operational temples in several locations in the surrounding regions, such as Nilakkal, Kalaketty, and Karimala, only the ruins of older temples can be seen on the hills where they were originally built.
The Sabarimala pilgrimage begins on the first day of the Malayalam month of Vrischika (which corresponds to the month of Scorpio) and continues until the 11th day of the Malayalam month of Dhanu (the Month of Sagittarius). This season of a journey lasting 41 days is referred to as the Mandala kalam (season). December and January are the months during which the season is in effect.
