After the arrival of Sriman Chakravarthy Varadacharya Swamy from Sri Mushanam in South Arcot District, who is believed to have found this temple in the village approximately one thousand years ago, Lakshmipuram became prominent.

This is when Lakshmipuram got its name. It is said that the Swami was the one who first erected the idol of Lord Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy in the temple, which is how the hamlet got its name Lakshmipuram.

The statue of Moolavirat that is now housed in the temple was discovered discarded on the borders of Gudipalli, which is a railway station between Jolarpetai and Bangalore and is located around 11 kilometers from Lakshmipuram.

Once upon a time, a resident of the hamlet named Sriman Lakshminarayachar Swamy had a dream in which he saw the god. On a bright day, he decided to pay a visit to Gudipalli in order to determine whether or not his dream was a representation of reality. To his utter astonishment, he discovered in the deserted mandapam the exact identical idol that he had seen in his visions. After some time had passed, the idol was relocated to the town of Lakshmipuram, where it was set up in accordance with the Agama Sastra.

Pushkarini is where the pieces of the old idol of Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy, which had been broken, may be found now. This location now has a brand new idol.

When he got close to the destroyed Mandapam, he was taken aback to discover the same idol that he had seen in his nightmares sticking out of the rubble.

This miraculous finding motivated him to take action in order to rehabilitate the idol so that it may be displayed in the best possible environment. Rituals based on the Agama Shastra were followed in order to set up the idol in the community of Lakshmipuram as quickly as possible. It is now known how the previous idol of Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal had become damaged; however, at the time, this information was not available. The broken pieces of the idol had been placed in the temple’s Pushkar.
