Skanda Sashti, also known as Kanda Sashti, is the most significant Lord Murugan holiday and is mostly observed by Tamil Hindus. On the sixth day of Karthika Masam, Skanda Sashti is observed and is typically identified with the lunar month.
During Kanda Sashti, which starts on the first day of the Karthika lunar month, Pirathamai, and finishes on the sixth day, known as Soorasamharam day, devotees of Lord Murugan fast for six days. Soorasamharam is the most significant day of the 06-day festivity. Soorasamharam is observed annually to remember the victory of good over evil because it is believed that Lord Murugan overcame the Demon Surapadman on this day.

Tuesday, October 25, 2022 – Day 1:
- Temple Opens at 1.30 am IST (early morning)
- Kanda Shasti Festival Commences Viswaroopa Darisanam, at around 2 a.m.
- Sri Jayanthinathar Yaga Salai Purapadu at 6 am,
- Udayamarthanda Abishekam to Sri Subramanya Swami (Moolavar). 10 a.m.
- Yaaga Salai Puja Uchi Kaala Deeparadhanai to Moolavar, Sri Jayanthinathar (at Yaagasalai), and Kaapu Katuthal.
- Sri Jayanthi nathar will bless devotees in Thanga Chaparam at Shanmuga Vilasa Mandapam following Uchi Kaala Deeparadhanai at Yaagasalai.
- Abhishekam to Jayanthinathar at Sashti Mandapam at around four o’clock in the afternoon Yagasalai Pujai Sayaratchai Deeparadhanai to Moolavar Deeparadhanai to Sri Jayanthinathar at Sashti Mandapam
- Night – Thanga Ther (Golden Chariot) – Raakala Abhishekam to Moolavar – Ekanda Deeparadhanai to Moolavar
Wednesday, October 26, through Sunday, October 29, 2022 (Saturday) Day 2 to Day 5:
- IST 3.30 am: Temple opens – 4 am Viswaroopa Tharisanam – Sri Subramanya Swami to Udayamarthanda Abishekam (Moolavar)
- Yaaga Salai Pujai will take place in the morning, followed by Uchi Kaala Abishekam, Deeparadhanai to Moolavar, and Sri Jayanthinathar (at Yaagasalai). In the afternoon, Sri Jayanthinathar will bless devotees in Thanga Chaparam at Shanmuga Vilasa Mandapam.
- Around 4 p.m., Abhishekam is performed at Sashti Mandapam for Jayanthinathar.
- Yagasalai Pujai Deeparadhanai to Sri Jayanthinathar at Sashti Mandapam Sayaratchai Deeparadhanai to Moolavar

- Yaaga Salai Pujai around 10 o’clock – Uchi Kaala Abishekam to Moolavar – Abhishekam to Sri Jayanthinathar – Uchikaala Deeparadhanai to Moolavar, Jayanthinathar
- 3 pm At Sashti Mandapam, Saayaratchai Deeparadhanai – Abhishekam, Deeparadhanai to Sri Jayanthinathar, Sri Jayanthinathar Kadarkarai Eluntharulal, and Soorasamharam – Chaya Abhishekam will be performed.
- Sanskrit word “Chaya” means “picture.” Raakala Abhishekam to Moolavar and Ekantha Deeparadhanai to Moolavar will be performed on the image of Sri Jayanthinathar in the mirror.
