Vaikuntha Ekadashi occurs on the eleventh day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Paush. It is marked with solemnity in Lord Vishnu’s temples. Vaikuntha Ekadashi is considered auspicious for Lord Vishnu’s devotees since it is thought that the ‘Vaikunta Dwaram’ to Lord Vishnu’s dwelling opens on this day. It is thought that anyone who observes a sacred fast on Vaikuntha Ekadashi will be able to enter the ‘Vaikuntha’ without having to face Yama Raja, the God of Death. 

Vaikuntha Ekadashi is celebrated with zeal and devotion by devotees. It is known as ‘Mukkoti Ekadashi’ in the southern states and is observed in the Tamil month of ‘Margazhi’. Special prayers, discussions, speeches, and yajnas are held at Lord Vishnu’s shrine. The celebrations are especially elaborate in South Indian temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

• Parana Time – 06:37 AM until 08:53 AM on January 3rd
• Dwadashi End Moment on Parana Day – 10:01 PM
• The Ekadashi Tithi begins at 07:11 PM on January 1, 2023.
• Ekadashi Tithi concluded at 08:23 PM on January 2, 2023.

Benefits of mukkoti ekadashi: 

Mukkoti Ekadashi is another name for Vaikuntha Ekadashi. It is thought that on this day, Vaikunta Dwaram, or the entrance to the Lord’s inner sanctuary, is opened, and devotees who fast on Vaikuntha Ekadashi achieve redemption by ascending to Heaven. Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam celebrate Vaikuntha Ekadashi.

In Kerala, Vaikuntha Ekadashi is known as Swarga Vathil Ekadashi in the Malayalam Calendar. Breaking the fast is referred to as parna. Ekadashi Parana is performed after daybreak on the next day of the Ekadashi fast. Unless Dwadashi ends before sunrise, Parana must be performed inside Dwadashi Tithi.

Hari Vasara is not the time for parana. Before breaking the fast, one should wait for Hari Vasara to finish. Hari Vasara is the first one-fourth of Dwadashi Tithi. Pratahkala time is the most popular time to break the fast. During Madhyahna, one should avoid breaking the fast. If for some reason it is not possible to break the fast during Pratahkal, it should be done after Madhyahna.

Vaikunta Ekadashi 2023 Pooja Procedure:

• People have historically bathed in the hallowed waters of rivers such as the Ganga and the Yamuna. 
• However, you can add a few drops of Gangajal to the bucket of water you’ll be bathing in.
• Wear clean clothes after showering.
• Dhyana is performed by lighting an oil lamp and placing it on the altar (meditation).
• Seek Lord Vishnu’s favour by invoking him.
• Perform Sankalpa (pledge and align your thoughts with the divine).
• Take Lord Ganesha’s blessings to ensure that you complete your vrat without incident. 
• Lord Vishnu should be offered water (Jal), sandalwood paste (Chandan), vermillion (Kumkum), uncooked rice combined with turmeric (Akshat), natural scent (Gandham), flowers (Pushpam), holy basil leaves (Tulsi), incense (Dhoop), lamp (Deepam), and food (Naivedyam). 
• You can make kheer, halwa, or any other sweet dish. You could also provide fruits, such as a brown coconut divided into halves, paan and supari, and Dakshina (a few currency coins).
• Read the Vaikuntha Ekadashi Vrat Katha or the Mokshada.
• Finish the pooja by offering aarti (salutations with ignited camphor).
