Holy town and pilgrimage site Ahobilam is located in the Allagadda mandal of the Nandyal district in the Andhra Pradesh region of India. It is encircled on all sides by the scenic highlands of the Eastern Ghats, which include a number of mountain gorges and hills. The nine Hindu temples and the other shrines are all devoted to Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu who has the head of a lion. This location is the center of adoration for Narasimha. Lower Ahobilam is home to both the main settlement as well as a temple complex. At Upper Ahobilam, which is located around 8 kilometers to the east, there is a steep canyon with other temples.

Throughout the 15th and 16th centuries, the monarchs of Vijayanagara were responsible for the construction or expansion of the primary Narashima Swami temples at each location.

From Krishna Paksha Panchami till the full moon (Paurnami) Brahmotsavam, the month of Palguna (February and March). Higher Ahobilam hosts the Dwajarohanam (flag hoisting) ceremony on Panchami day, while Lower Ahobilam hosts the ceremony the next day. On the day of Pournami, the Chariot festival is celebrated in the morning in Lower Ahobilam, while the Sri Garuda vahana seva is performed in Upper Ahobilam the same night. The next day, Garuda vahana seva will be conducted in Lower Ahobilam.

After the Brahmotsavam for Sri Prahlada Varadan at Lower Ahobilam pushkarini, there is a three-day celebration called the Theppotswavam.
