Local tradition has it that a childless man named Somasharma was brought here by divine intervention when the residents of Thanthondrimalai (also known as Thanthonimalai) begged for his assistance in building a temple dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. The Kalyana Venkatramana Swamy Koil was constructed with Somasharma’s assistance.
