For the last act of destruction against an enemy, the Puranas recommend the Sudarshana Chakra. The fact that the word Sudarshana means “vision of whatever is auspicious” adds a second layer of significance. Hence, Sudarshana is worshipped before to, during, and after Homas and other religious ceremonies and events to shield them from negative energy.

Chakra snanam, or the ritual of cleansing the holy disc, is an important practice during Brahmotsavams and other major festivals. The Chakra, the symbol of Vishnu, is shown here in copper. Being the last day of the Brahmotsavam celebration, Chakra Snanam is when the celestial bath, or Abhishekam, is done (Snapana Thirumanjanam).

History Of Tirumala

The “Tirumala Venkateswara temple” is a shrine dedicated to Vishnu in India. Tirumala is the name of one of the hills where this temple is situated, and the number seven top of this hill is where the temple can be found. Many devotees go here each year to present their offerings to Lord Tirupati. Money donation is the most meaningful part of their vacation.

Around 30–40 million pilgrims make the annual travel to Tirupati Dham to make monetary sacrifices at this temple because they believe doing so would bring them spiritual benefits. Hindu mythology portrays Tirupati as an incarnation of Vishnu. Laxmi, the goddess of prosperity, fought with Vishnu but ultimately chose to remain on Earth.

To be closer to Laxmi, Vishnu relocated his home from Baikunth Dham to Tirupati. Despite his best efforts, Lord Vishnu was unable to locate the Goddess Laxmi. On his travels, Lord Vishnu met Padmavathi, who just so happened to be the daughter of the King of the Seven Hills of Tirumala.

After falling in love, they decided to commit to one another by getting married. Lord Vishnu proposed marriage to Padmavati, the incarnation of the goddess Laxmi. The King, Padmavathi’s father, insisted on a large dowry before he would give his daughter in marriage. To finance his nuptials, Venkateswara borrowed that sum from Lord Kubera, who is symbolically understood to represent a bank or treasury.

To help him out, Kubera loaned him that sum of money with the stipulation that repayment would take one thousand years (One Yuga). Lord Vishnu withdrew a sum from the bank equivalent to 1,400,000,000 Ramamudra coins. According to the loan agreement, Lord Vishnu, with the help of his devotees, must pay back the money he borrowed before the end of this Yuga.

This is why a lot of people visit Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam every year and donate huge quantities of money. It is believed that the building of the temples at Tirupati began about 300 AD and continued over a period of time since all of the temples are fashioned in the Dravidian architectural style. In the ninth century, King Thondaiman built the first temple at Tirupati.
