An historic Hindu Vaishnavee temple, the Sri Narapura Venkateswara Swamy Temple is devoted to Lord Venkateswara, one of Vishnu’s incarnations. A man by the name of Narapuraiah had a dream in which the deity known as Lord Sri Venkateswara appeared to him and informed him about the idol that could be found on the bank of the Penna River. At the town of Jammalamadaka, on the banks of the Penna River, Narapuraiah was able to locate the idol with the assistance of some of the other people.
Later on, he set up this Idol in a sand pile that was located to the north of the town. This temple has been known as the Naranpura Venkateswara Swami Temple ever since that time. The current temple, which was consecrated by Narapuraiah, was then renovated in the year 1919 with the assistance of local devotees, as is recorded in the inscriptions that are located on the walls of the temple.
