It is said that Guru Raghavendra performed penance for Panchamukhi Anjaneya here for a period of twelve years. Anjaneya, Panchamukha, Varaha, Garuda, Narasimha, and Hayagreeva arrived in front of Raghavendra Swamy after being impressed by him. Anjaneya was impressed. Following the sighting of Lord Anjaneya, Sri Raghavendra attained Jeeva Samadhi and became one with the universe.

Outside of the temple, there is a pair of shoes that is widely believed to have belonged to the deity Lord Anjaneya.
