Akasha Ganga Theertham is said to come from Lord Venkateswara’s lotus feet. Its waters are used in all religious rites, demonstrating its value. Akasa Ganga’s holy waters are available to the Tirumala Nambi family.

In ancient times, priests traveled the forests and rough terrain to reach the waterfall and deliver water to the Lord’s Abhishekam early in the morning. When Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) took over the temples, it built direct pipes from the waterfall to the temple, simplifying the task. It is claimed that Akasa Ganga Teertham may cleanse evil and provide luck to those who bathe in it. For worshippers, the temple created a platform with flowing water.

Tirumala Akasa Ganga Theertham History:

According to local legend, “Sriman Tirumala Nambi,” a devout follower of the Lord who once gathered water for the Thirumanjanam, is the one responsible for this task. One day, god appeared to him in the form of a hunter and begged him for some water to satisfy his thirst. But, the hunter refused, explaining that the water was intended for the Lord and not for an untouchable like the hunter. After that, the hunter used an arrow to puncture the vessel, and then he drained the whole contents of the water.

In response to Nambi’s protests, the hunter took a bow and pointed it at the mound, which immediately began spewing water. Nambi, who was under the influence of hypnosis at the time, was told to use clean water to wash the Lord, after which she vanished. The subsequent events led to Tirumalai Nambi’s realization that the hunter was none other than the Lord himself. Beginning at that time, water from this location has been utilized in the worship of the Lord.

This is another version of the story. In this version, Nambi found the pot empty when he reached the temple, but he did not suspect the hunter. Thus Nambi came to the conclusion that God, in the guise of a hunter, had already granted permission to water before the day had even begun. Since that time, water has been transported from the akasa Ganga.
