2022 Maha Navami Puja:

Maha Navami is thought to commemorate the day when the Goddess fatally wounded the demon during their long battle. The monster was finally defeated by the Goddess on the next day, the 10th day of the war, known as Vijayadashami. This is why, during Maha Navami celebrations, the Goddess Durga is worshipped as Mahishasuramardhini, or “She Who Killed Mahishasura.”

Festivities:

Maha Navami is observed in numerous Indian states as part of the 10-day Durga Puja celebration, but particularly in West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Bihar. The Goddess is worshipped with great zeal, dedication, and excitement these days.

It should be noted that depending on the start time of Navami Tithi the previous day, Maha Navami Puja and Upavas may be performed on Ashtami Tithi. On Ashtami Tithi, if Ashtami and Navami merge before Sanyakal, Ashtami Puja and Navami Puja, including Sandhi Puja, are performed on the same day.

Durga Balidan, on the other hand, is usually performed on Uday Vyapini Navami Tithi. According to Nirnaysindhu, the best time to do Balidan on Navami is during Aparahna Kaal.
