Legend behind Palani Temple:
According to the myths and legends of Hinduism, Sage Narada paid a visit to the heavenly court of Shiva atop Mount Kailash in order to give him a fruit known as the gnana-palam (literally, the fruit of knowledge). He came to the conclusion that he would bestow it upon whichever of his two sons would become the first to complete three circumnavigations of the world. Murugan, who was presented with a task, decided to accept it and set off on his voyage aboard Mount Peacock. However, Ganesha was able to circumambulate his parents and win the fruit because he reasoned that the world was nothing more than the combination of his parents, Shiva and Shakti.

Murugan was incensed and realised he needed to become an adult from a young age; as a result, he decided to live as a hermit in Palani. Sage Bogar, one of Hinduism’s eighteen famous siddhaars, is credited with creating the idol of the Muruga in Palani out of a mixture of nine toxic herbs known as Navapashanam. Bogar also performed the rituals necessary to consecrate the statue.
Ways to reach Palani Temple:
In addition to the ropecar and the winch, there are two more methods to get up to the Palani Hill temple: the first is the Elephant Path, and the second is the Steps. On days when there are festivals at the hill temple, an elephant is created so that elephants can mount the hill. The Palani Murugan Temple can be reached through stairs, which are utilised by everyone who visits. There are two different stairways. The first one is the quickest and the only one with steps. Very pleasant, but it might not be appropriate for older individuals. The alternative route is a comfortable step method with relatively little steps, obviously more steps to walk, and some level walking surfaces in between each step.
