For the darshan of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, the TTD has mandated that pilgrims submit a few certifications. This regulation applies to all those who reserve Slotted Sarva Darshan (Free darshan) tokens or special entry darshan tickets. To guarantee the safety of pilgrims and temple staff, the regulation was strictly implemented at every TTD-run temple.

Required Documents for Tirumala Darshan:

  1. According to the TTD website, devotees are required to carry their covid vaccination certificate (two doses) or Covid-19 negative certificate obtained 72 hours before the day of darshan.
  2. All pilgrims are required to produce the same Photo ID (PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport, or voter identity card) that was used for booking.

Tirumala Srivari Darshan Dress Code:

  • When visiting the temple, visitors are obliged to don traditional garb.
  • Male devotees are required to wear a Dhoti/pyjama and a shirt/uttariya (upper garment).
  • Saree, a half-saree with blouse, or Chuddidar, pyjamas and an overgarment for women.

DO’S in Tirumala:

The following are activities available in Tirumala:

  • Make homage to your Ishta Daivam or Kula Daivam before undertaking your Tirumala journey.
  • When visiting the shrine, you must wear a mask, maintain social distance, and sometimes wash your hands.
  • Plan your journey and lodgings to Tirumala in advance.
  • Before worshipping Lord Sri Venkateshwara Swamy, take a bath in Swami Pushkarini and worship Sri Bhu Varaha Swamy at his temple.
  • Before approaching the sanctuary temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy, bathe and don clean clothing.
  • Within the temple, fix your attention on Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
  • Inside the temple, maintain perfect silence and recite the mantra “Om Namo Sri Venkatesaya.”
  • Bathe at Tirumala’s Papavinasanam and Akasha Ganga theertham.
  • During your trip to Tirumala, follow old rituals and practises.
  • Respect and foster religious sentiments among pilgrims.
  • Place your contributions only in the Hundi.
  • According to your religious views, you should wear a tilak.
  • Follow the rituals of the temple and wait your time to get the Lord’s darshan.

DON’TS in Tirumala:

The following are activities not allowed in Tirumala:

  • You should not visit Tirumala for any reason other than to adore the Lord.
  • Carry as little cash and jewellery as possible.
  • No shoes are permitted in or around the temple grounds.
  • Avoid approaching hotel and darshan touts.
  • Within the temple, do not kneel (sastanga danda pranamam).
  • Do not discard the prasadam and theertham offered to you at the temple.
  • Avoid eating non-vegetarian meals, using alcoholic beverages and smoking when at Tirumala.
  • On temple grounds, headgear such as helmets, caps, turbans, and hats are not permitted.
  • Commit no acts of violence or cruelty on the grounds of the temple.
  • Do not enter the darshan area without first waiting in line.
  • Do not enter the temple if custom or tradition prohibits it.
  • Do not wear flowers to the Tirumala shrine, since all the flowers on the sacred Seven Hills are reserved for the Lord.
  • Beggars must not be supported.
  • Do not spit or make a disturbance on temple grounds.
  • Weapons and ammunition are prohibited in Tirumala. Pilgrims in possession of licenced firearms or ammunition are required to declare them at the Alipiri checkpoint and provide the required papers; failure to do so will result in legal action.
