The town of Tripuranthakam in the Prakasam District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh is home to the famous Tripuranthakam Temple, dedicated to the gods Tripurantakeswara Swami and Bala Tripurasundari. A myth surrounds the Tripurantakam temple. Here, with the help of the goddess Sri Bala Tripura Sundari, Lord Shiva slew the Thripurasuras. People from all across the region, including adjacent cities, flock to this temple on Shivaratri and Navaratri to celebrate. According to the Shiva Purana, Shiva had destroyed the Tripurasuras (demons who ruled over three cities) in this area. After Shiva wiped out the demons and their three cities, the area became known as Tripuranthakam, and Shiva was given the name Tripuranthakeswara.
At the peak of the mountain is the Sri Pravathi sahita Tripurantakeswara Swamy temple, which conceals a hidden underground route leading to Srisailam. Down the mountain, in a pond, is where you’ll find the Bala Tripura Sundari shrine. Tripurantaka Bala Tripurasundari Devi is Adiparasakthi’s first incarnation (swayambhu). Supposedly inhabiting the place as a little girl, she has been spotted on numerous occasions. Around two kilometres downhill from the temple of Tripurantakeshwara can be found the temple of Bala Tripurasundari. When it rains, the water level in the tank surrounding the Devi temple rises, encircling the shrine.

The Tripurantakeswara Swami Temple is on a hill. The ascent can be done by car or on foot via the stairs or road.
