Navratri, which means “nine nights” in Sanskrit, is a big Hindu festival that honours the divine feminine. The full name of the festival is Sharad Navratri. Navratri takes place over 9 days in the month of Ashvin, which is also called Ashvina (in the Gregorian calendar, usually September–October). On the 10th day, people often celebrate Dussehra, which is also called Vijayadashami. In some parts of India, Dussehra is the most important part of the festival, so it lasts for 10 days instead of 9.
Also, because Navratri is based on the lunar calendar, it may be celebrated for 8 days in some years, with Dussehra on the ninth. There are four festivals called Navratri that are all the same and are held at different times of the year. But the most important one is Sharad Navratri, which takes place in early fall. It starts on the same day as Durga Puja, a 10-day celebration of the goddess Durga’s victory that is especially popular in some eastern states.

Navaratri Durga Ammavari Puja:
Some followers of the goddess Durga, who are especially common in Bengal and Assam, call the festival the “Rite of Durga,” or “Durga Puja.” Special images of Durga that show her defeat of the buffalo-headed demon Mahishasura are worshipped every day, and on the 10th day (Dussehra), they are paraded to nearby rivers or reservoirs and thrown into the water. In addition to family gatherings and the puja, or ritual, public concerts, recitations, plays, and fairs are held to mark the days.

Navaratri celebrations 2022:
In different parts of India, people celebrate Navratri in different ways. Many people use this time to think about their religion and fast, while others use it to dance and eat. During a fast, people often stick to a strict vegetarian diet and don’t drink alcohol or eat certain spices. Garba is a dance that is done, especially in Gujarat. Most of the time, each of the nine nights of the festival is focused on a different aspect of shakti, the divine feminine principle.
Even though the pattern changes a bit from place to place, the first third of the festival is usually about Durga, the second third is about Lakshmi, and the last third is about Sarasvati. Offerings are often made to the goddesses and all of their different forms, and rituals are done to honour them. Kanya Puja is a well-known ceremony that takes place on the eighth or ninth day. In this ritual, nine young girls dress up as the nine forms of the goddess that are honoured during Navratri. They are worshipped by having their feet washed in a ritual and being given gifts like food and clothes.
