In all seasons, there is a large audience at this temple. The devasom workers and the Kerala police have built a very excellent queueing system. Lord Guru (teacher) and Lord Vayu are said to have put Krishna’s idol at Guruvayur temples (Air). This shrine is as significant as Mathura or Dwaraka.

The temple has a long history and a lot of culture associated with it. If you go during the week, you can avoid the weekend crowds. The hot heat in north Kerala does not make standing in lines any easier. There are also a number of motels and guest homes just outside the temple. Several management methods were devised by the devasom officials and the Kerala police, including:

• Always plan on being in line for at least 1.5-2 hours. It is customary in Guruvayur Temple.

Guruvayur Temple queue management:

Guruvayur receives between 40,000 and 60,000 pilgrims every day. Naturally, there are a lot of people. And, unlike several similar high-traffic temples, the temple is not open 24 hours a day. The temple has highly stringent opening/closing timings, and admission inside the temple is prohibited for several puja occasions, hence there is usually a crowd backlog.

However, the general queue management is excellent.

• All entrances to the temple are made through East Nada/East Gate. There are two ways to get here.
• The main que complex is intended for entry into Nalambalam (inner courtyard), which houses the Sreekovil (Garbhagriha/Sanctum Sanatorium). This was entered via Mukhakavadam (Main Gate). 
• A second gate may be seen on the right side of Mukhakavadam. If you do not want to enter the inner courtyard, but rather to pray from the outer courtyard, or if you need to collect pooja receipts or do additional poojas such as Thulabharam/ Shayanapradhikshanam/ Pada Prathikshanam, or if you need to see the Temple Manager or deputies, you can utilize this gate. 
• You can also utilize this gate if you want to use any specialty queues such as those for Handicapped Pilgrims, Senior Citizens, Protocoled Pilgrims, VIPS, and so on.
• There is a West Nada/West Gate that fulfills the same function as the second gate in East Nada, but it does not enable you to enter the inner courtyard/Nalambalam in general.
• The main que complex is neatly laid out. It is divided into ten passenger column lines, each of which can hold up to 50-60 pilgrims at a time. 
• The column line is opened in numerical order, thus number 1 will be opened first, and once all pilgrims in that line have entered, number 2 will be opened, and so on. There will be a security check before entering the column lines.
• Arrive in the evening of a business day to avoid crowds. We avoided the morning traffic, multiple ceremony-related pauses in the morning, the wedding crowd, and so on…. People can conclude the darshan in 20 minutes; avoid weekends and Thursdays in general. Season of Sabarimala (Nov, Dec, Jan).
