Sabarimala 2022 Mandala Pooja:
Mandala Puja is an important ceremony that takes place at the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple in Kerala. Mandala Puja marks the end of Mandala Kalam, which is a 41-day period of austerity that people who worship Lord Ayyappa do. On the first day of the Malayalam month Vrishchikam, the 41-day fast begins.
Mandala Puja and “Makara Vilakku” are the two biggest events held at the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple that draw people from all over Kerala and neighboring states. During this time, most days of the week, the temple is open for the devotees.

Sabarimala 2022 Mandala Pooja Open and Close dates Timings:
- Mandala Puja 2022 is on December 27, Tuesday 2022 Mandala kalam begins on November 17, Thursday
- The temple will be open from 3 AM to 11 PM.
As a tradition, people who go to the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple during the Mandala Puja also go to the “Guruvayur Temple.” During this time, the “Guruvayur Temple” holds a special “Abhishekam” ceremony.
- The Makar Sankranti Day is the best day of the Mandala Pooja. Mandala Pooja is also called as Makaravilakku. This happens every year between January 14 and 16. To start the procession, the Lord’s jewels are taken to the Old Pandalam Palace in Sabarimala.
- In the middle of all of this, you can see the Krishnaparuntu, also called the Brahminy Kite, which is thought to be Lord Vishnu’s vehicle.
- It flies high above until the jewels reach the palace. Then it goes around Sannidhanam in Sabarimala about 9 times as a sign of respect to Lord Ayappan.
- The Makara Jyoti will be the only star we can see, as it is what makes the ritual special. During this time, devotees decorate the Lord Ayappan Idol with jewels and chant “Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa.”
- When the Lord is dressed in jewels, the star mysteriously disappears. Last, a bright light, called Makaravilakku, shines three times from the hills across from Sabarimala. This ends the blessed ceremony.

Rituals during Mandala Puja:
- Vratam, or fasting, is an important part of Mandala Puja that the traditional and orthodox people of South India observe with full dedication and strictness.
- People who go on the pilgrimage to the Sabarimala shrine must also live in a simple way. During Mandala Puja, devotees try to be good and live simply.
- Devotees wear a Rudraksha or Tulsi mala with Lord Ayyappa’s locket until they go to the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple, and then they take the mala off. During this time, devotees are called “Swami” or “Ayyappan.”
- During Mandala Puja, devotees must keep their body and mind clean and give up all pleasures of this world.
- During the Mandala Puja, all devotees who go to the Sabarimala shrine must not drink alcohol or smoke. Praying twice a day is important. During this time, they must not have sexual relations and try not to hurt the feelings of others.
