The Mangalore Dasara is a Hindu festival celebrated in Mangalore, India, by the Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple. It is also known as Vijayadashami or the Navarathri Festival. The tiger dance, lion dance, and bear dance are the main attractions. The city is lighted with lights throughout the duration of the event.
Kudroli Mangalore’s temple is most known for its Shiva temple. The main shrine has a Shiva Linga, and the temple complex also houses smaller temples dedicated to other Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
The Kadri Manjunatha and Mangaladevi temples date back hundreds of years, while the more recent Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple is notable for its festivities such as Dasara and Mahashivaratri.

History of Mangalore Kudroli Temple:
Kudroli Gokarnath Temple in Mangalore was founded in 1912. The temple as it stands today, on the other hand, was renovated and expanded in 1991. Since 1989, the temple has been a major part of Mangalore’s Dasara festival celebrations.
The Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple was originally built for Shiva in line with the local Nath tradition. Nath traditions were a sub-sect of Hinduism that integrated Buddhism, Shaivism, and Hatha Yoga teachings. The Nath tradition was created by Matsyendranath.

The Mangaluru Dasara festival will be conducted at the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple from September 26 to October 6. There will be a large Shobha Yatra of Nava Durga and Sharada Mata on October 5.

Shobha Yatra 2022 Mangalore Dasara Procession:
The procession begins in the evening of Vijaya Dashami at the Kudroli Shree Gokamanatheshwara Temple and concludes in the early morning at the same location. The statues were immersed in the Pushkarini pond in the temple complex the following day. Mahaganapathi, Sharada, and “Navadurga” idols are carried in the procession, accompanied with flowers, decorated umbrellas, tableaux, bands, chende and traditional dances, folk dances, Yakshagana figures, Dollu Kunitha, Gombe (dolls), Pilinalike (Huli vesha), and other kinds of traditional art.

The procession travels through the city’s principal roadways, including Kudroli, Mannagudda, Ladyhill, Lalbagh, KS Rao road, Hampanakatta, Car Street, and Alake.
The Gokarnanatha Seva Dal will present Sharada “mata” with a silver Peeta, while a Mangaluru family will present the idol with a silver veena. The 12 kg silver Peeta will be donated to Goddess Sharada for Rs 12 lakh. Puttur is producing the Rajatha (silver) Peeta, which will be distributed on September 24.

Highlights of the Mangalore Shobha Yatra include the creation of an artistic Kalamantapa at the Gokaranatha Kalyana Mantapam. Sridevi is carried in procession atop an Ambari at the legendary Mysuru Dasara. The Navadurga and Utsavamurti of Sharadambe are brought in a Shobha Yatra at Mangaluru.
There hasn’t been a Shobhayatra in over two years. This year, they are eager to hold a colourful Dussehra parade, and it is expected that lakhs of people would participate. A 90-person Gujarati team will perform the Dandiya dance at the temple as part of a cultural programme during the festival.
