The Pallikondeswarar temple is a Shiva temple that can be seen at Surutapalli hamlet, which is located between Chennai and Tirupathi in Andhra Pradesh, just across the boundary of Tamil Nadu. During the process of churning, a lethal toxin known as Halahala leaked out of Vasuki’s lips. Because of its high toxicity and destructive potential, the toxin was capable of wiping out every living thing. When the Devas needed some protection, they went to Shiva. Without any hesitation, Shiva ingested the poison in order to keep the three realms safe. Almost instantly, Parvathi wrapped her hands around his neck, preventing the poison from travelling any farther than his throat. The colour of Shiva’s neck changed to a bluish-gray, and he became known as Neelakandan. (neela = blue, kanda = neck in Sanskrit),Nanjundan ( one who drank poison). After the mission was over, Shiva and Parvathy travelled to Kailash. While they were travelling, Shiva had feelings of exhaustion and discomfort owing to the poison. He lowered himself to the ground and reclined on Parvathi’s laps. Because of this reason, people refer to him as Pallikondeeswarar.

After passing through the three levels of the gopuram, you will come out into the expansive courtyard. In front of the Sri Ramalingeswarar sannidhi, you will find the Bali Peetam, the Dwajasthambam, and a large Pradosha Maha Nandhi. The primary entrance to the inner praharam may be found off to the side and somewhat to the left. You may see Kuberan Sanganidhi and Kuberan Padmanidhi with their wives instead of the Dwarabalagas.
