They were subsequently plundered by the Mughals in 1578, and have since undergone several restorations and expansions. They now consist of a hodgepodge of work from different time periods.

About Ahobilam Temple:

Ahobilam is one of the 108 Divya Desams and is located in the middle of the Nallamala Forest. There are nine smaller temples dedicated to Lord Narasimha within a five-kilometer radius of the main temple, leading to the area’s alternative name, Nava Narasimha Kshetra. In Ahobilam, there are nine incarnations of Lord Narasimha: Jwala Narasimha, Ahobila Narasimha, Malola Narasimha, Kroda Narasimha, Kaaranja Narasimha, Bhargava Narasimha, Yaogananda Narasimha, Chathravata Narasimha, and Paavana Narasimha. Most of these temples can only be accessed by long, arduous hikes through dense forest and through mountainous terrain, and only a select few of them are easily accessible.

The city has two halves, referred to as “Lower Ahobilam” and “Upper Ahobilam,” respectively. Three of these nine shrines (those dedicated to Yogananda, Chathravata, and Bhargava Narasimha swami) are located in Lower Ahobilam, while the other six are all located in Upper Ahobilam. Similarly, Lord Venkateshwara of Tirupati is credited for installing the idol of Lord Narasimha Swami in a temple dedicated to him in the city’s lower Ahobilam.

Food in Ahobilam may be found in modest hotels and cafeterias due to the town’s limited population. The Upper Ahobilam is home to the Brahmana Nitya Annadana Satram, where over 400 people get their daily meals. The Sri Ahobila Matham also maintains a foundation named the Annamacharya Nitya Annadana Trust, which is dedicated to the welfare of the temple’s senior priests. Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy’s followers are fed for free.

The month of February until the middle of March is when Brahmothsavam is held. In two days, with a guide, you may see all nine shrines.
