KaIyanakatta is a peculiar compound word. No other temple uses names of this nature very frequently. While Mudi Samarpane is the more typical usage in Kannada, Mudi Seluttuvadu is in Tamil. The submitting of a hair offering, according to Telugu speakers. “Kalyanakatta” is the name of the location of submission. The name was chosen for two reasons.

The “Kalyani” river flows close to Srinivasa Mangapuram. There were barbershop platforms along the Kalyani River. The pilgrims who travelled this route in the past used to wash in Kalyani and surrender their hair. Once organised, they would travel to Tirumala through Sri Vari Mettu.

The Sri Vari Mettu path dates back 1,000 years. This road was popular at the time Chandragiri Fort was being built by Immadi Narasimharayulu. The path was then known as “Sri Pati Mettu.” At the moment, pilgrims use this path to travel to Tirumala.

Buddhism’s term for the renunciation stage is “kalyanam.” Every man needs to give up egoism. On the head, hairs grow. It is now vital to remove hair that is growing. The head is also tied to the notions of good and bad. They emerge in a disorganised fashion. According to the elders, offering hair is similar to pulling weeds out of a harvest. In Veera Bhakti and Tamasa Bhakti, it is customary to offer the head. Over time, the head was replaced by the submission of a hair donation. Receiving a tonsure is still a popular tradition. In terms of hair, I don’t agree with shaving off hair with scissors and leaving the moustache alone. Since Tirumala is a sacred site, there are no limits about Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, or Masa for submitting the hair, and there are also no distinctions between day and night. Even now, some followers of the ritual still have their children cut their hair before they become one year old.
