According to Hindu mythology, when Brahma intended the invention of the earth, he created water. Lord Vishnu had the misfortune of slaying the evil Madhukaidavas. Lord Brahma created water, and the cut pieces of the bodies floated on it. When he saw this, Brahma prayed to Lord Shiva to continue making the earth out of the hardened compound of the bodies’ water and flesh. Lord Shiva showed up in the form of a mountain.

Lord Brahma, who was unaware of this, created multiple mountains. He was disappointed because they didn’t have a place to live.
