The northern path is said to lead to Moksha. Uttarayan is primarily a day of nature worship, with Surya, or the Sun God, being worshipped. Cows, oxen, and other domesticated animals are also bathed, and tasty snacks and fresh grass are provided. Because man’s survival is dependent on domesticated animals and plants, special pujas are done for their well-being.
