The Muthanga sanctuary can be found on National Roadway 22, often known as the highway from Mysore to Sulthan Bathery. The second largest wildlife sanctuary in the state of Kerala is called Muthanga. This protected area has a total land area of 345 square kilometers.

  • The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is the second biggest wildlife sanctuary in the state of Kerala, and it is located on the Western Ghats.

One of the major communities can be found at the tri-junction of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (WWS), the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, and the Bandipur Tiger Reserve. Chettiyalathur is located in the Muthanga range of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (WWS).

Under the Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitat programme, which is financed by the central government, around 160 local households have shown interest in voluntarily relocating elsewhere. Midway through the month of July, the first group of six families uprooted and departed the village. (By the time 2018 came to a close, there were around 97 families who had left.) There are now another fifty applications being processed. This is a component of the relocation package that was developed by the government in 2012 for those who were living at WWS, which was designated as a sanctuary in 1973.
