Duryodhan beat the Pandavas at a game of chance. As promised, the Pandavas had to live in hiding for an extra year after their 12 years of exile. During that last year, they had to stay hidden from everyone, because if anyone found them, they would have to go back into hiding for another 12 years. Arjuna hid his bow, Gandiva, on a Shami tree for a year and worked for King Viraat under the name Brihannala.
