The history of Bhai Dooj 2022:

Bhau Beej, Bhatra Dwitiya, Bhai Dwitiya, and Bhathru Dwitiya are some of the alternative names for Bhaiya Dooj 2022, a festival that enhances the tie between siblings. This celebration has a history with Lord Yama (also known as Yamaraja) and his sister Yamuma. What happens next is the story.

Yamuna made the decision one day to bring his brother to her home because it had been a while since she had seen him. Yama, the ruler of death, who was her brother, used to be so preoccupied with his duties that he never had time to go see his sister. However, he was unable to refuse Yamuna’s gracious invitation to visit her home and share a meal with her.

Yama was eventually able to see his sister on the second day of Shukla Paksha in the Kartik month. Yamuna was overjoyed to see his brother at her door. She extended an invitation to come inside, performed his aarti, applied a tika to his forehead, and gave him some candy. Given that he was the god of death and no one had ever invited him to their home, Yama was moved to tears by the love and respect his sister showed him.

Yamaraja made a promise to Yamuna that he would grant her request before departing. Any brother who visits his sister on this day and eats the food she gives should have a long and happy life, and untimely death should not touch him, Yamuna asked him for a favour. From that day forward, Bhai Dooj was observed as a festival.
