The original temple builders are not mentioned in these inscriptions. However, for the sake of carrying out daily temple worship, they keep track of offerings made to the temple, such as land, money, and cows. During the 1973 excavations, Black and Redware sherds dating to the second or third century AD were discovered. Additionally, large-sized bricks measuring 42+21+6 cms. from the same period as well as potsherds from the Andhra Satavahana period (about 1st to 2nd century AD) have been discovered. So, according to certain historians, the temple dates to the Satavahana era.
On the banks of the Suvaranamukhi River stands the Parasurameswaraalayam temple. This location has a great story to tell. The story goes that once there was a devotee named Parasurameswara who routinely worshipped Lord Siva with extraordinary ardour while using flowers that he had grown nearby in his tank. The flowers had strange shapes and colours.
And beautiful to look at. He received happiness from the Lord because he was pleased. When a demon came across this unknown situation, he decided to go ahead and pick all the flowers to give to Siva. The devout Sivabhakta engaged the demon in a brutal boxing match after finding the offence to be heinous. Lord Siva appeared as the defeated demon was going to be crushed and granted both of them their wish to become one with Him—sayujyamukti—by merging in Him.
A well-known tourist temple, that is the Lord “PARASURAMESWARA DEVASTANAM” is said to have built the first temple in India around 2 B.C. “SURYABHAGAVAN” Temple, and temple for “ANANDHAVALLI AMMAVARU” on the grounds of the temple.
