Saraswati Visarjan Puja 2022:

Saraswati Visarjan is observed on the fourth and last day of the Saraswati Puja celebrations during the Navratri festival. It is celebrated on the ‘dashami’ (10th day) of the ‘Shukla Paksha’ (the moon’s waxing phase) in the ‘Aswin’ month of the ancient Hindu calendar. The Gregorian calendar places this day between the months of September and October. This holiday is also known as “Saraswati Udvasan.” Saraswati Visarjan is observed as the day on which worshippers pray for the return of the goddess Saraswati.

In Hindu mythology, Goddess Saraswati is a primary divinity who has been venerated since the Vedic period. Her glories are described in a number of mediaeval and ancient Indian texts. In the Shanti Parva of the famous Hindu epic Mahabharata, Goddess Saraswati is referred to as “Mother of the Vedas.” As the goddess of knowledge, music, wisdom, science, and the arts, she is revered. Goddess Saraswati is Lord Brahma’s consort, and Her heavenly residence is Brahmapura. She is depicted riding a peacock, swan, or hansa.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Brahma created the universe with the assistance of Goddess Saraswati. Goddess Saraswati, along with Goddess Kali and Goddess Lakshmi, is an integral member of the Hindu ‘Tridevi’ and is revered with deepest devotion across India. Students and members of the artistic and literary communities worship Goddess Saraswati to seek Her heavenly favour.

Saraswati Visarjan Puja 2022 Date Timings:

  • Saraswati Visarjan 2022 occurs on Tuesday, October 4th.
  • Shravana Nakshatra Timing: 4:51 p.m. until 9:15 p.m. on October 5.

Saraswati Puja celebrations commence on ‘Maha Saptami’ with Saraswati Avahan and conclude on ‘Vijayadashami’ with Saraswati Visarjan in the states of Goa, Maharashtra, and the southern portions of India.

Saraswati Visarjan Puja 2022 Procedure:

  • Any Hindu puja, including the Saraswati Puja, begins with invoking the Goddess in the form of a “murti” or idol. 
  • Following the completion of the ceremonies, the puja concludes with a request for the presiding deity to retire. Visarjan is a Sanskrit word that refers to the ritual of gracefully requesting leave.
  • On the day of Saraswati Visarjan, devotees rise early and don traditional attire. Women wear jewels, and it is customary for them to apply vermillion to each other’s foreheads. 
  • On the occasion of Saraswati Visarjan, unique sweets and meals are prepared as offerings to the Goddess.
  • On the day of Vijayadashami, after finishing the rituals and puja of the Saraswati Puja, worshippers undertake the Visarjan puja. 
  • At the conclusion of the festivities, following the final aarti, the idol of the goddess Saraswati is submerged in a river, sea, or other body of water. 
  • The Saraswati Visarjan procession is carried out with much pomp and is celebrated with song and dance. The devotees bid farewell to their goddess and eagerly anticipate Her return the following year.
  • On the final day of Saraswati Puja, also known as Saraswati Visarjan or Udvasan, young children are initiated into the learning process in South India. This festival is known as “Vidya Arambham” in Kerala and Karnataka, where it is celebrated with much merriment.
