From the establishment of the Bobbili Kingdom, the royal line has held veneration for Venugopala Swami. Chinna Ranga Rao, a royal descendant, gained control of Bobbili after the terrible conflict that destroyed much of the Bobbili Fort and had a new temple built for the old idol that had been salvaged from the rubble.

It’s the holiest shrine in all of Bobbili, and it’s conveniently adjacent to the palace. Swetha Chalapati Ranga Rao erected the Gopuram (entry tower) in 1851. Its Gopuram towers above the main temple, making it unique among local religious buildings. Ancient, priceless ornaments are placed on the temple’s deity statues during special celebrations.

There is a lake where the Vasant Mandapam is located, and it is peaceful there. Every year at the beginning of spring, devotees of Lord Venugopala Swami bring the temple’s idol to the lake for a festival. In 1825, Maharaja Krishnadas Ranga Rao erected the mandapams.

Generally speaking, social norms in the Vizianagaram district are similar to those of the rest of South India, with a few notable exceptions. The locals are kind and generous individuals who value their families deeply. Individuals from this area tend to be mild-mannered and hospitable, and they value their family traditions highly.

At Salur, the aristocracy included the Pusapatis, the Ravus of Bobbili, the Varicharlas of Kurupam, the Satrucharlas of Merangi, and the nobles of Vizianagaram. They deserve kudos for being such generous art and literature patrons. Even before the Government Act of 1948 abolished princely states, they welcomed and cherished the democratic spirit. The region is known as the country of pride and heroism because of the legendary battles of Bobbili and Padmanabham.
