It has been suggested by Executive Officer A.V. Dharma Reddy that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) once again provide Divya Darshan tokens, which are now distributed midway along both pathways for the convenience of trekking pilgrims.

Mr. Dharma Reddy, speaking to the media on February 3 (Friday), stated that the tokens will largely be distributed exclusively to individuals who did not have any form of darshan ticket. Those who have previously purchased tickets for the more expensive Special Entry Darshan (SED), Slotted Sarva Darshan (SSD), Arjitha Seva, or VIP break darshan will not be able to use their Divya Darshan tokens.TTD research indicates that over 60% of trekkers do not bring any kind of darshan token with them.

The infrastructure and internal road linkages of the holy town of Tirupati are undergoing a sea of change. While the Srinivasa Sethu elevated expressway project has received most of the attention, it is only one of 15 master plan road works being undertaken by the Tirupati Municipal Corporation in the temple city to permanently address the traffic woes of the denizens of this holy city at a cost of Rs 52 crore.

Several of the roads included in the master plan’s 15 or so projects were originally slated to be built about a decade ago but were never built owing to a lack of political will and commitment. Nevertheless, by the end of 2022, the corporation council headed by mayor Dr. R Sireesha and deputy mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy issued a resolution to execute the 15 or so master plan road works on a war-footing and finish them by the end of 2023.

The council’s vote has led to the immediate start of construction on the 15 roads included in the master plan. Deputy Mayor Bhumana Abhinay Reddy said that after the master plan road works are done, the majority of individuals in the middle-class income groups will greatly benefit due to the significant increase in land values.

As a result of their poor value owing to a lack of adequate road infrastructure, most of the properties acquired by those in the medium and lower income brackets have been abandoned for decades. As a result of the Tirupati civic body’s adoption of the master plan road works, however, real estate prices in all neighborhoods bordering the newly constructed roads have risen sharply; this price correction will benefit those in the city’s lower and middle-income.

The city council anticipates that the new roads will have a beneficial effect on the local economy by stimulating building and real estate development over an area of around 3,500 acres in the temple city. The choice to compensate the displaced with TDR bonds worth almost four times the market value has helped the Tirupati municipal corporation expeditiously complete the road works without any hiccups or delays.
