Two Brahotsavams in a year:

When the lunar calendar has an extra month, there are two Brahmotsavam: Salakatla and Navarathri. Both events took place in 2015. 2018 and 2020.

On the morning of the eighth day of Salakatla Brahmotsavam, Rathotsavam (Big Chariot) is held. On the morning of the eighth day of Navratri Brahmotsavam, on the other hand, Golden Chariot (Swarna Rathotsavam) is held. The flag will be raised (Dwajarohanam) on the first day of Salakatla Brahmotsavam, and it will be lowered (Dwajaavarohanam) on the evening of the ninth day.

History and tall tales:

The legend of Tirumala says that Brahma comes down to earth to run the festival. Sri Venkteswara Sahasranamastotra says that Brahma is in charge of the festival. This is shown by a small, empty wooden chariot (brahmaratham) that moves ahead of the processions of the Venkateswara processional deity Malayappa.
