Sri Malayappa Swamy’s Vahana Seva portrayed the lion, Simha, a symbol of power, pride, and ferocity. Lord Vishnu’s manifestation as Mrugendrudu (the most fierce and powerful of the animals, the lion) is a sign of the Lord’s strength as an avatar to punish the wrongdoers in the cosmos and protect the good, the impoverished, and the weaker members of society.
As a symbol of strength and swiftness, the lion is mentioned frequently in the Yoga Shastra. Lord Venkateswara’s bravery, in choosing such an animal as his conveyance, is prominently on exhibit.
The statues of Lions in the Ananda Nilayam, in the Srivari temple complex also reflect the power of the Lion King. The prominence of the lion (Simha) in the celestial entourage of Lord Venkateswara is demonstrated by the presence of statues of Narasimha Swamy in the Yogic mudra at the Srivari temple and of Lakshmi Narasimha along the Alipiri pedestrian route leading to Tirumala.

The God who is being carried about in a hamsa vahanam
The Pedda Sesha Vahana is used to transport Lord Venkateswara when he is removed from his abode in Ksheera Sagara (celestial ocean of milk). Following this is the Chinna Sesha Vahana, which represents the tiny snake that rests around Shiva’s neck. The god is paraded around the neighborhood surrounding the main temple on various vahanas on consecutive days (vehicles). The swan vehicle, also known as the Hamsa Vahana, represents a beacon of wisdom in a sea of ignorance. A lion, symbolized by the Simha Vahana, is a powerful symbol.
The vahanas known as Mutyapu Pandiri (pearl-adorned), Kalpavriksha (tree of boons), and Sarva Bhoopala (gods of the earth, air, and water) represent the omnipotence and generosity of the Lord. In the next few days, we’ll be visited by the vahanas Mohini (the female form of Vishnu), Garuda (the eagle), Hanumantha (Hanumana), and Gaja (the elephant). The temple’s elaborate and colorful depictions of rituals are based on Aagama rites. Famous singers fill the streets with devotional music as worshippers sit in galleries to observe the almighty’s march. Both classical dancers and folk artists perform for the public. Along with the temple’s 20,000 paid staff members, thousands of volunteers ensure that the celebration goes off without a hitch.
Third-Day: Simha Vahana Seva
- Carrying the deities on the Simhavahana begins on the morning of the third day.
The lion, or simha, represents majesty and authority. It is said in the Bhagavad Gita that the Lord is like the lion, or Simha (mriganamcha mrigandroham). Hari (which means Simha) is another name for the Lord, and the Lord himself sits atop Simha. - To put it another way, we have the phenomenon of God restraining himself.
- Some people think that Lord took on the shape of Narasimha (half man and half lion) in order to put an end to the demon hiranyakasipu. Therefore, on the third day of the Brahmotsavam, Lord Venkateswara rides the Simha.
- Nighttime Unjal Seva is performed. The Mutayalapandiri vahana, complete with a pearl-studded canopy, is then used to transport the gods. Pearls, or mutyam, have long been viewed as a symbol of purity and grandeur.
