Ekadashi 2023:

Every 11th Tithi in the Hindu calendar, Ekadashi fasting is observed. A month has two Ekadashi fasts, one during Shukla Paksha and one during Krishna Paksha. Lord Vishnu devotees fast on Ekadashi to seek His blessings.

The Ekadashi fast lasts three days. Devotees eat a single meal in the afternoon the day before fasting to ensure that there is no leftover food in the stomach the next day. Devotees observe a severe fast on Ekadashi and break their fast only after daybreak the next day. During the Ekadashi fast, all grains and cereals are prohibited.

Vrat performed during Ekadashi:

Ekadashi fasting on two consecutive days is sometimes advised. Smartha and his family are urged to fast only on the first day. The second alternate Ekadashi fasting is recommended for Sanyasis, widows, and those seeking Moksha. Smartha’s alternate Ekadashi fasting day coincides with Vaishnava’s Ekadashi fasting day. Fasting on both days of Ekadashi is recommended for ardent worshippers seeking Lord Vishnu’s favour and adoration.
