  • Lastly, the women take the Bathukamma to a river or lake nearby. Folk songs are played along the route of the procession, which is full of colour.
  • The Bathukamma is right in the middle of the river.
  • The women then share maleeda, a sweet bread made with sugar and corn flour.
  • During the 10 days of the festival, women make mud statues of Bathukamma and Boddemma (Goddess Gauri). Then it is put into ponds. This makes the ponds stronger and keeps more water in them.
  • The water in ponds and rivers is cleaned by the wildflowers.
  • The Bathukamma festival shows how important it is to live in balance with nature. The festival is for the women of Telangana who work hard.
