Navaneeta Seva in Tirumala:

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has developed ‘Navaneetha seva,’ a new seva aiming at manufacturing indigenous ghee necessary for the preparation of daily prasadams presented to Lord Venkateswara as ‘naivedyam.’

Cleaning the Gosala grounds, making Rangolis, making cakes out of cow dung to use as fuel, giving cows grain, churning butter, and other tasks are all included in Navaneetha Seva.

25 Gir cows, which are kept at Goshala, were brought from Gujarat by the TTD after great effort. Only women will be allowed to milk cows, make curd the old-fashioned way, and turn butter into ghee.

In specially made clay jars decorated with Gujarati folk art, milk, butter, and ghee will be delivered to the temple. In order to churn the curd, special “Kavvum” will be used. Flautists and other musicians will also be utilised in the ritual’s implementation, according to the TTD. Music played on the Goshala site is thought to increase milk production in Desi cows. The Navaneetha Seva participants will be accompanied by musicians as they travel from the Goshala to the temple.

For the creation of Naivedyam to the Lord, 1,200 gallons of milk and 30 kg of cow ghee are needed each day. For the purpose of performing Navaneetha Seva, around 300 desi cows—seven indigenous and three local breeds—would be kept in Tirumala.
