In the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, next to the Chakra Teertham, is the Natural Arch, Tirumala Hills, a notable geological wonder that is situated 1 km (0.6 mi) north of the Tirumala Hills temple. In the native tongue, the Arch is also known as Silathoranam (in Telugu, “Sila” means “rock,” and “thoranam” means a garland hung over a threshold, linking two vertical columns or, in this case, a “arch”).
History of Sila Thoranam and Tirumala:
According to legend, Lord Sri Venkateswara travelled to Tirumala to look for his wife, Sri Maha Lakshmi. Even though the sage had humiliated him by kicking Him in the chest, where his wife Sri Mahalakshmi was there, she had respect for Brigu Maharshi. He was positioned atop Tirumala, presently known as SRIPADAM.

Legend behind Tirumala Silathoranam:
There are three different interpretations of the arch’s mythological folklore that is connected to the well-known Lord Venkateswara temple in the Tirumala Hills.
According to one interpretation, the arch is thought to be the origin of the idol of Lord Venkateswara or Lord Balaji at the Tirumala hill temple because it resembles the hood of a serpent, a conch (Sanskrit: Shank), and a discus (Sanskrit: chakra) – all symbols of adoration in Hinduism.

According to the second theory, the primary deity in the Tirumala temple is the same height as the arch.
The third version states that Lord Vishnu, a Hindu deity also known as Balaji or Venkateswara and the central deity of the Srivaishnava tradition, is said to have taken two steps at the location of the arch, the first step being at a location known as Padalu or Sreevaripadalu, the highest point of the Tirumala hills. The following action is then said to have been situated where his idol is currently revered in the shrine at Tirumala.

Everyday from 7 AM to 7 PM, Sila Thoranam is open.
There is no longer any secrecy about The Sila Thoranam. Buses from TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam) run often to this place, and you can also drive there from the temple. It’s wonderful to see that this distinctive monument is receiving the respect it merits, as evidenced by the garden that has sprouted up around it.

The arch’s position is easily accessible by road, rail, and air lines. Tirupati is the rail station closest to Tirumala Hills. The sole route to reach the Tirumal temple is by road, a 19 km journey from Tirupati railway station (11.8 mi). Renigunta Airport, which is 15.3 kilometres (9.3 miles) from Tirupati and links to airports in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore, is the closest airport.
All of the states that border Andhra Pradesh run regular bus services (both private and public transportation services). The temple’s approach road is long and lined with trees. There is access for private automobiles to the area. It would be a delightful 20-minute stroll from the Varahaswamy temple in Tirumala.
