The Mangalore Dasara is a celebration held in Mangalore, India, conducted by the Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple. It is also known as the Navarathri Festival or Vijayadashami. The main attractions are the tiger dance, lion dance, and bear dance. For the duration of the event, the city is illuminated with lights.

The temple of Kudroli Mangalore is mostly known for its Shiva temple. The main shrine has a Shiva Linga, and the temple complex contains lesser temples dedicated to other Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

The Kadri Manjunatha and Mangaladevi temples are hundreds of years old, while the more contemporary Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple is significant for its festivals such as Dasara and Mahashivaratri.

Mangalore Kudroli Temple History:

Mangalore’s Kudroli Gokarnath Temple was established in 1912. The temple as it is today, on the other hand, dates from 1991, when it was rebuilt and expanded. Since 1989, the temple has played an important role in the great celebration of the Dasara festival in Mangalore.

The Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple was originally constructed for Shiva in accordance with the Nath tradition prevalent in the region. A sub-sect of Hinduism practised Nath traditions, which incorporated the beliefs of Buddhism, Shaivism, and Hatha Yoga. Matsyendranath established the Nath tradition.

According to legend, Jesus and a disciple named Mangaladevi landed in the district that is now known as Mangalore. Mangaladevi was a Premaladevi princess who had joined the Nath culture. It is said that due to illness, she settled in the Bolar region, where she died. At her honour, the Mangaladevi temple was established in Bolar, and the city that we now know as Mangalore was named after her.

Durga Puja is one of the longest Hindu holidays, lasting nine days and celebrated with great zeal and splendour. Shardiya Navratri, in which the nine incarnations of Maa Durga are worshipped, will kick off the holiday season. This year, the first day of shardiya Navratri will be September 26, 2022. Durga Puja and Dussehra are celebrated at the end of these nine days. According to the Hindu calendar, Shardiya Navratri begins on the Pratipada date of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Ashwin.

Mangalore Kudroli Temple Navaratri Dasara 2022 Dates:

Durga Puja is celebrated on the final day of Navaratri. Maa Durga’s idol is immersed in rivers or other bodies of water to demonstrate respect and devotion, and the festival lasts from Shasthi to Dashami.

Durga Puja 2022 will be held this year from October 1 to October 5.

Mahalaya 2022 will take place on October 14th, that year. This is a key Durga Puja event in which believers invite Goddess Durga to the earth and focus their attention on her idol.

  • Day 4 of Navratri 2022 (September 29): The Goddess Kushmanda is worshipped.
  • Day 5 of Navratri 2022 (September 30): The Goddess Skandamata is worshipped.
  • Day 6 of Navratri 2022 (October 1): The Goddess Katyayani is worshipped.
  • Day 7 of Navratri 2022 (October 2): The Goddess Kalratri is honoured.
  • Day 8 of Navratri 2022 (Oct 3): The Goddess Mahagauri is honoured as Durga Ashtami is observed.
  • Navratri 2022 Day 9 (Oct 4): This is the day when the fast is broken and Goddess Siddhidhatri is worshipped.
  • Day 10 of Navratri 2022 (Oct 5): Goddess Durga idols are immersed in water. Dussehra is observed.
