TTD closed the Tirumala shrine to worshipers for the first time due to the development of Covid-19. The temple’s closure began on March 19, 2020, and will last until June 8, 2020. The daily rites for the presiding deity, on the other hand, were carried out by a small group of priests. The temple will reopen to pilgrims on June 9, 2020.

TTD has reduced the number of pilgrims who can visit the temple for free darshan commencing in June 2020 due to strict Covid-19 requirements. Prior to the pandemic, it gave only 3,000-4,000 Sarva Darshanam tokens per day, compared to an average daily footfall of 65,000-70,000 pilgrims.

In March 2021, the amount of tokens progressively climbed to 22,000 throughout the week and around 25,000 on weekends, but then the second wave arrived. During the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, the Tirumala temple remained open, but only VIPs and pilgrims with a Rs 300 ticket were allowed to enter.

Due to the pandemic, the TTD has developed an online ticketing system for free darshan to limit sickness spread by avoiding crowds at ticket booths in Alipiri, Tirumala’s foothills.

Darshan of Tirumala Tirupati Updated COVID Rules Guidelines:

1. According to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, all worshippers must have a negative Covid-19 test report or a double vaccination certificate to offer prayers in the Tirumala shrine (TTD).
2. Srivari devotees who have had a negative test result within the last 48 hours will be allowed to visit the temple. A double vaccination certificate is also required to enter the Tirumala Tirupati temple.
3. Despite the fact that the ban has been in place since October 20, 2021, some followers appear to have arrived without immunisation and with negative test results.
4. Following the spread of the Corona virus in the state, TTD asked devotees to prepare paperwork for devotees’ and TTD personnel’s health and safety. Devotees visiting all temples will be compelled to follow this guideline under the TTD rule.
5. When entering the temple, you must wear a mask, maintain social distance, and wash your hands frequently.

The following documents are required for Tirumala Darshan:

• According to the TTD website, devotees must produce their covid vaccination certificate (2 doses) or Covid-19 negative certificate received 72 hours before the date of darshan.
• All pilgrims are required to provide the same original Photo ID (PAN card, Aadhaar card, passport, or voter identification card) that was used to schedule their travel.
• To get free admission, children under the age of 12 must provide evidence of age.

• Worshippers must wear traditional attire when visiting the temple.
• Male devotees must dress in a Dhoti/pyjama and a shirt/uttariya (upper garment).
